Living for Jesus, Learning for Life, Serving with Gladness is the Mission Statement of Covenant Christian School in Smithville. How can you see this mission at work in our school? You can see it in the community of parents, teachers, and students who work together to guide students in their learning, both in the classroom and on the playground. It is developed in the Biblical basis of all activities that take place both in the classrooms and outside them. The mission is seen in how we shape minds and attitudes of the next generation so that they will be well equipped to work and serve in this community.
We began the school year with a focus on caring. The opening assembly and class presentations promoted good, caring behaviour. Together we wanted to begin the year with an emphasis on building a caring community. During September teams began to play soccer and prepare for their tournaments. The students also elected their Students’ Council. In October, our focus shifted to thankfulness, a most fitting theme for October. Students were happy to share their blessing in the West Lincoln Food Drive and throughout the month classes have been on trips to apple orchards, Ball’s Falls, and the pumpkin patch. When children see the fruit of the harvest, it’s a natural opportunity to teach them the importance of thankfulness. God is good. He blesses our families, our communities, and our country.
We’ve had a great beginning to the school year. Each day is a gift to unfold and we are blessed with enthusiastic students, eager to learn and serve. We are also blessed with dedicated teachers, well trained in the practice of nurturing and teaching. Living, learning, and serving . . . . this is what we are striving to do as we guide each child through the informative years of their lives.
